Grace Beauty Box

Client Overview

Industry: Beauty, Skincare & Fragrance Retail Platform: Shopify Package: E-commerce Website Timeline: A couple of weeks, built on-site with the client

Introduction

Grace Beauty Box is a UK online beauty retailer selling skincare, haircare, body care, fragrance, makeup and wellness products from a wide range of well known brands. They had been selling successfully on one of the big online marketplaces for quite some time and had built up a loyal customer base before coming to us.

The Challenge

Selling through a marketplace had worked well for Grace Beauty Box, however the costs were adding up, with hefty selling fees on every order and money lost on returns and refunds that the platform handled on its terms rather than theirs. They came to us wanting an ecommerce website of their own, somewhere they controlled the shopping experience, their pricing and the relationship with their customers, while still being able to keep their marketplace store running alongside it.

Our Solution

Before taking the project on we met to talk through what they needed, and they kindly invited us round for dinner so we could get to know each other properly. It’s not something that happens with every project but it set the tone for everything that followed, by the time we started we understood the business, the products and the people behind it. We recommended Shopify as the platform, giving them a reliable, easy to manage store with secure checkout and room to grow as their range expanded.

Implementation Process

Rather than work remotely and send designs back and forth, Kevin worked alongside the client at their premises, building and configuring the Shopify store with them over a couple of weeks. That covered the design, setting up the product categories so a large range of skincare, haircare, body care, fragrance, makeup and brands was easy to browse, and getting the store settings, delivery options and everything else in place so it was ready to trade from day one. Being in the room meant decisions got made on the spot and the client knew how their own shop worked by the time it was handed over. The result was a fully working ecommerce website that lets Grace Beauty Box sell without paying marketplace fees on every sale or losing out on returns the way they had been. They still sell on both, which makes sense for reach, however customers have increasingly chosen to buy directly through the website rather than the marketplace, which is exactly what the project set out to do.
